Hi all,

I recently found this website and am hoping someone might be able to help me out regarding Japanese movie flyers (chirashi). I've been a collector of Chirashi for a few years now, but found out that several famous movie series: Star Wars, Alien, Star Trek, Superman and Bond, had special reprints. I'm trying to locate websites that show how to determine if a chirashi from one of these movies is an original or a reprint / anniversary special. I've resorted to buying chirashi for those movies with colour cinema listings to be certain (my logic being the reprints would be black and white backing). A while back I found out a japanese site, but cant locate it again - it was great for showing the all different chirashi available for famous movies / series.

Here are two links to the Star Wars 25th anniversary reprints (in case I've confused you):

If you've anything else to share about chirashi I'd be happy to hear from you too.

Thanks,

Steve

In Japan they will regularly re-release popular films and issue new posters often with the similar artwork. The chirashis will coincide with a poster campaign so it's probably best to look at websites featuring posters to date the artwork. Japanese posters are dated with Eirin marks. You will need someone who understands Japanese to date them though as their dating system is different (emperor periods)

Hi Steve,

Just a little late! But if you or anyone else is wondering about Japanese chirashi dates, you can get some good info at www.jposter.net. All chirashis are listed with both the original theatrical release date, and the poster's release date, making it easy to see which are a re-release and which are an original release.

Note that there really aren't any 'reprints' as such - just posters made for the re-release of a movie, and most of the time these have different artwork. As you refer to, these re-releases are often for an anniversary of some kind.

Here's a link direct to their Star Wars page also.
