I use a combination of Adobe programmes for the visuals. Primarily After Effects for the animation and Photoshop to prepare the posters (colour correction etc).
For the audio part (music and sound effects) I use a couple of analog and digital synthesizers, which I record and mix in Ableton Live.

Adding to what I wrote previously, some knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illustrator would really help.
Let me know what kind of films you plan to do and maybe I can help you.
