About Me

I got into film poster collecting around 1998 and since then I've acquired an eclectic assortment of posters from the UK, US, Poland, France and possibly others that I canna remember.

My first recollection of film posters was a family Christmas trip to London (I was about 7) when I got to see Star Wars for the first time (WOW!). Parking underneath Hyde Park, the long twisty white corridors that led us out had several style c posters that really caught my imagination. Nothing happened for a while, but in my second year at university studying graphic design I lived by a derelict art college, being a nosy git I phoned my brother who also likes to have a good rummage through junk and we climbed the wall to see what was there. Interestingly I found two old gnarly film posters, one being Topkapi (my brother kept that one) and the other being Marnie (I kept this one). This really fired my imagination, I loved the designs and typography and it got me thinking about the Star Wars poster I had seen when I was younger. Trawling the internet I found the Reel Poster Gallery's website, one sunny day I went down to Queensway and purchased the aforementioned Star Wars style c (which is still framed on my bedroom wall).

Since then my hobby has become quite an addiction, having probably amassed over 100 posters from the 1990s and onwards (a few earlier ones have also crept in). Quite a few of them were bought on the original ebay auction site with more on ebay, I have also got some from the Cineart Gallery, Nostalgia Factory (has this shop gone the way of the Dodo?), Westminster Poster Fair, Rick's posters, The Cinema Store in Covent Garden, The Vintage Magazine Shop and Flashbacks (now sadly no more) in Soho.

I think that should do for now... but I'd like to finish by saying I'm really excited about being a member of this great forum.
